I don't know shit about networking (I failed you, lemmy) but I wonder if you can install a vpn to your router now. I heard they are are often using linux inside?
Yes you can set up routers to route through a VPN, it's a pretty common thing
I don't know anything about any of these other than I would watch a lot more youtube if it had no ads. I'm gonna need a ublock for dummies manual.
Literally every single normal fucking router has some sort of VPN client burned in from the factory by now (mine has a fucking server, even), and even if not it probably either has an OpenWRT port or is a worthless ISP piece of shit you are expected to use with another router alongside anyway. It's not 2012 when you (probably) had to follow a buildroot tutorial on YouTube by some Indian guy with Cygwin.
Check out GL.iNet routers, they have this baked in the UI.
