Alternatives to Big Tech are just about to get a whole lot more support and development.

Firstly, from the recent influx of new users and now directly from EU investment!

No better time than now to make the switch.

Yet 58% of MEPs are still on X.

https://leavex.eu/ is a useful resource for those who want to call them out on it - find the representatives from your country still on X, let them know what exactly they are supporting by staying there, and maybe nudge them towards something like https://eupolicy.social/ as a more reasonable alternative.

Remember to be polite - many of them/(the ones we care to convince) are good people who are just doing what they have been told they need to do in order to communicate with their base. They just need to realize the world has changed.

The EU already runs its own mastodon server:

https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/

No need for a 3rd party alternative for EU politicians.

Germany also has their own for official accounts: Social.bund.de

There's not one mastodon instance for EU stuff, but rather they divide it alongside the division of powers. https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/ is only for the European Commission and its related initiatives and officials, while https://curia.social-network.europa.eu/ is for the Court of Justice of the EU.

To my knowledge there's no official instance for the European Parliament or its members.

I believe a good number are moving to Bluesky. However, that is still American. Hopefully, there will be a strong push for a mass exodus from X once W Social is launched.

Personally I really hope the X exodus will not be caused by new venture capitalist platform taking over, even though it might seem increasingly inevitable at this point.

I have extremely little faith in W social—they didn't even manage to set up their temporary landing page properly, indicating strongly that this is run by capitalists rather than talented and ideologically motivated people. Apparently it's a Bluesky fork, so I guess it will have a perceived success by running on ATProto no matter how it goes down.
