I have a friend who prefers to rawdog his illnesses.
My question every time is
fucking why
I'm dosing up on everything over the counter I can. I want to be as numb as possible until it's over.
I’m imagining an early 20th century-er who witnessed polio, measles, etc. take out half their siblings then seeing the option of meds and vaccines that saved most of the population a couple decades later glaring at your friend with angry confusion, lol.
I know people like your friend too, unfortunately. Letting a fever burn complications into your system is not “healthy.” Stress and excess inflammation slow the progress of healing, so easing that within reason is critical.
I’m downing every *Quil and expectorant on hand the first day those flu symptoms show as well. No reason to suffer if it’s not mandated ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Doctor's advice is to use fever reduces when needed. Otherwise you're likely just prolonging your illness.
tbf, he does listen to doctors' advice. Takes his vaccines, all that. But when it comes to symptom alleviation, he doesn't 'need' it, so he doesn't take it.
Because the more you repress your symptoms, the longer you will be sick and the more damage it does to your body. Just have to keep a fever within limits.
Not necessarily. The main issue is that people suppress their symptoms and then dont properly rest because they feel fine. Its like having a huge bleeding cut, taking painkillers so you dont feel it and then just going about your day as if nothing happened.
So they could become healthy again in the same time frame, but they dont because they have no self discipline.
Source? Most things I've read for fevers has shown basically no difference.
