Come to Quark’s, Quark’s is Fun!

General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

Hope this is appropriate for this place. I just watched S04E04 of DS9 with this interaction (at 10:12, the linked clip in this post) an hour ago, and later talked with a friend who said basically the same thing about the Trump presidency: that it has positive effects in the sense that for example Europe is starting to be more independent from the US, the American citizens are waking up about how their political system is broken.

And it's interesting to me, like obviously it'd be much better if we could all just get along and work together, but the status quo before was just the US doing the same shitty things as now, telling the EU what to do and the countries within the EU just do it no questions asked basically. The whole shittyness just covert. Now the shittyness is so obvious that "US allies" are stopping that dependency on the US.

Let me know what you think, or if I am stupid. I am just mainly amazed by DS9 and Star Trek being so relevant still.

The classic example from history is Ghengis Khan "uniting" China and building roads etc. Did he lay the foundation for what eventually became modern China? Almost unquestionably. The question is, is it worth it to hurt a lot of people now?

I just noticed this post because I happened to check /c/Quark's but I also support this being reposted into Daystrom or StarTrek
