But is Meloni going to break with the President over a patch of land that is far away and irrelevant to Italy’s security and economy?

When WW2 started Americans also thought Europe was irrelevant to them

At the start of WW2 Europe was irrelevant to them because they were hoping the nazis would win and destroy USSR. Europe became important when the Soviet Union broke the back of the nazis and all of a sudden there was a chance of all of Europe going communist.
