World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
- Blogsites are treated in the same manner as social media sites. Medium, Blogger, Substack, etc. are not valid news links regardless of who is posting them. Yes, legitimate news sites use Blogging platforms, they also use Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and we don't allow those links either.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Once Europeans understand the American coup of Ukraine, NATO expansionism, blowing up the pipe and the current Western European remilitarization efforts are all ways America has kept Europe subjugated (our leaders are whores paid by the same interests that govern America), and that it being against Russia was nothing but spin, that there's no need to "contain Russia" as much as there is a need to contain America, maybe they'll open their eyes a bit and see our "friend" across the pond more accurately. Just consider the outcomes for a second and think of who benefits from all of this...
"America bad" does not mean "Russia good."
Comparatively so, definitely, by far, undeniably so and it helped restrict American hegemony to the point it's now acting more like a regional power (hence ICE, Venezuela, Greenland soon...), so most of the world benefited from the existence of Russia. In a vacuum? Hardly, of course, but that wouldn't be accurate judgment, nothing is a vacuum.
The world benefits from the complete removal of russia. It does not add anything of value.
What a take. Yeah, just genocide them, you would if you could, that's part of your cultural framework, right? 🙄
Yeah fuck em
Oh, this is a gimmick. This is your bit.
I understand why that would be your initial reaction, do you?
You sound like the sort of person who would say "it's for their own good" if Russia did lean into its patently obvious expansionist plans and try to take land from other countries. "But Belarus is OK and that would be easy". There's a Russian puppet in charge there, just like there's a Russian puppet in charge of the US.
Yes, it's the Machiavellian, genius, all powerful Russians who are behind it all and Trump is not an American product, not an accurate representation of the current state of the American empire, and not just a symptom of a bigger, underlying problem in American so-called civilization. Okay.
Putin, former KGB, is known to follow some of the global strategies called for by "The Foundations of Geopolitics". One of the main strategies called out by the book is using disinformation to divide democratic countries internally, weakening and distracting from Russian power projection and consolidation of 'lost territory's/sphere of influence.
Guy who knows espionage takes advantage of the worst American to divide USA internally and push away NATO. Not machiavellian genius, probably a lot more successful than anyone suspected because of said underlying issues.
From my PoV, Putin/FSB stirred the pot beginning in 2010 or so, setting up troll farms and disinformation propganda groups targeting US, UK, and other democracies. They put out all kinds of disinformation to divide and incite anger, latching on to what sticked (like anti-vax, 'deep state', brexit, economic woes, racism, etc). These were much more effective in the US and UK than say Ukraine or Baltic states, due to proximity and historical animosity.
Tldr, effective espionage that happened to find a weak spot, helped by narcissistic insiders. Not genius, just luck and taking advantage of existing cracks.
You're right, Russia obviously had some pull but I don't think this entire restructuring of America was done because of it, if anything it just accelerated the process. The amoral oligarchs that have politicians on their payroll, both local and foreign, had their cut of this whole thing and now even more so with Trump in power who only cares about the bag, no ideology behind it (from the tech bros at his party to Gulf leaders offering him billions), and now the country has been completely captured by them, and through the same policies that Russia would follow to weaken America. They colluded, basically, and using the current financial circumstances with China being basically a country living in the future, a global factory now turning into the global R&D, a financial global point of interest, Russia just did their part to accelerate the process that the American leaders themselves (because they don't care about America, they're amoral, inhuman global capitalists, they can live anywhere comfortably and would not be negatively affected by the collapse of the American empire but actually profit from it) green lighted.
Now, Biden was more aligned with the MIC and Israel, prioritizing the military side of the American empire, Trump is just there for the money so since leaders know he can be bought, they offer him everything in exchange for a piece of the American pie. This is why Netanyahu has flown to the White House personally, despite the small but still present risk he could be arrested because he's an international criminal, like 6 times in a year! But he's popular enough to enact these changes while his base, which is a considerable chunk of Americans, suck his dick and many rich folk who are "apolitical" support it through their silence simply don't care. Now's the time, basically. But if Americans were different people, better informed, more interested in policy (especially when it affects the whole world!) and with at least a semblance of a moral framework, this wouldn't have happened. Well, the whole empire wouldn't have happened if they were like that from the beginning but that's a different convo, lol. 👍
Agreed on the acceleration, sorry if I didn't state it that way.
FSB helped set some fires thinking it would distract and divide, probably never imagined it would grow into the firestorm of chaos it grew into. More tinder of racism than anyone expected, the winds of late stage capitalism feeding the fires for its own benefit like you put it. The disdain for education and media literacy coming to roost as there was no metaphorical firestop.
Captain, I don't have anything else to add, I just wanted to thank you for your informative posts and civility. 🙏
Trump and his family have gladly accepted Russian money and one of the world leaders he most admires is Putin because of the way he "handles" his political opposition, so they're very much influenced by what Putin says, does and asks them to do.
Frankly both Putin and Trump can get in the sea.
Putin is actually intelligent, regardless of his morality (I know the man has a lot of innocent blood on his hands, not to the extent of American presidents but still, he might see Hell), Trump can smell it and, since intelligence is capacity and capacity is power, Trump "admires" him. But he was doing all his amoral hedonistic and grifty stuff way before he ever had a relationship with Russia, Russia (and the rest of the world too, why do you think they call Trump "country builder" in China, lol) is just happy he's in power now and definitely helped him get there (to a smaller degree than reactionary talking points make it seem) and he was elected because enough people in the country are hateful morons, that's it. And Russia has financed Trump, it's not friendship, it's just convenient for both sides...
