Dear Ambassador:

President Trump has asked that the following message, shared with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, be forwarded to your [named head of government/state]

“Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT”

As someone (unfortunately) in the US, I fully expect the reputation of the US to be ruined for the rest of my life. I'm lucky to be in a decently progressive (by US standards) state, but I really would rather be anywhere but here in the US. We are fucked.

If it’s any consolation, Afghan, Iraq, Guantanamo and torture already meant the US was considered a turd world country. The only difference is Americans are now seeing what we’ve known for decades.

Oh, I've known that we were a shithole. But I had a tiny, miniscule amount of hope that we could pull out of it in my lifetime, at least when I was a teenager and young adult. Now, I have no hope. There's no coming back from this, at least not as the USA. Maybe if we balkanize, but that's unlikely to happen because of our oligarchs.

Yeah I’ve got some bad news for you. For as long as I’ve been alive, at least in Canada, we’ve not had a high opinion of the US. And we like you guys more than most countries.

I've been painfully aware my entire life, not to worry. It's just that there is no repairing it now, not in my lifetime. There may have been a slim chance of getting closer with our allies before a third of the country voted the dumbass in chief into office, but not anymore.

In Canada anyway the US government has been influencing our elections openly in bad faith and also threatening to annex and invade us this year. I don’t see you guys coming back from that one without some massive, major shifts in government and culture.

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

That's basically what I said in the first place, that I don't see the US coming back from this, at least not during my lifetime.

Well I’m more optimistic. It is NOT too late to do something. It is not too late for the American citizens to show the rest of the world that they do not want World War 3, that they do know right from wrong, and that they aren’t too selfish and cowardly to do something about it.

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I won't say it's impossible, but as someone in the country, it's doubtful. We are a country built and operated on corruption and greed. It will take millions of American citizens to rise up, and kick the oligarchs to the curb. I'm afraid my fellow citizens are far too comfortable at the moment to actually take action. Minneapolis has given me a bit of hope, but until it's in every city for weeks at a time, I'm afraid nothing will change.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Well, I hope you guys at least try. Because I can’t fault someone for trying and failing but I absolutely can fault someone for not trying.

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 2 points 14 hours ago

Lots of us are trying. I'm just not sure enough of us are.
