It would be so much fun watching western media try to spin curing cancer as an evil communist plot though.

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 49 points 1 month ago

Go ahead and get your commie jab! I'm gonna cure my cancer with ivermectin and benzene

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We've literally seen this with COVID haven't we?

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah the Chinese and Russian vaccines came out like a year ahead of the US ones and the media just fearmongered about them not being safe

Whenever "The Commies" beat America to a medical breakthrough, it's indeed very fun to watch the Red Scare nonsense spewed by Western media.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've noticed there's a lot of racism involved too; I recall the media's initial mockery and skepticism of Cuba when they revealed they'd had success with a lung cancer vaccine, or mockery of Iran in regards to their ability to reverse engineer drones, claiming no one there had the skills for it.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah. That side of it is just sad and frustrating, the Red Scare type nonsense is at least funny.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Eating burnt red meat while smoking reds with the filters ripped out to stick in to Beijing.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Does burnt red meat give you cancer?

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

In the IARC system, red meat is classed under 2A: which means it's probably carcinogenic. There's a strong link between heavy red meat consumption and bowel cancer compared to people who rarely consume or do not consume red meat. In fact, red meat is the example Wikipedia uses for group 2A.

Burnt food is IARC Group 2B, possibly carcinogenic. Acrylamide created by burning food has shown an increase in cancer in some lab animals but last I read it was inconclusive for humans as its rarely a staple diet for the vast majority of humans so it's hard to research.

Whatever reply that results in your spiel.

Sorry, maybe I've been in too much reddit lately and assumed bad faith but yes. Burnt anything is carcinogenic. I don't know as much about red meat as compared to other meats but I'd be surprised to find out that it has any health advantages because the usual suspects would be hyping those already.

Oh yeah? I had no idea that burnt stuff was carcinogenic. Not that I ever eat burnt stuff anyway.
