In the same vein, it wasnt that long ago that here on Lemmy someone was giving me shit because I won't throw my Harry Potter movies away. Like, it's not gonna take the money back from Rowling if I do that. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Just pirate them multiple times a day until she goes bankrupt.

I can't tell if you think that's how things work or just being sarcastic...

i feel like OP knows it doesnt work that way and made a joke poking fun at how corpos want you to think it works this way.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago

It's mocking corpos for crying about how much money they've lost with each pirated download of something.

I got into a spat on lemmy a while ago when I said Rowling wouldn't care about people burning her books as she already had the money for them.

It is way more effective gifting them to people who would have bought new if they did not received a used one…

If there are less books in the field, the value of the books rises, which in turn allows to sell new ones more expensive as well.

When WOTC started to fuck up D&D and people were talking about chucking their books away I was encouraging them to mail them back to WOTC instead.

If you're going to protest a company you have to figure out how to cost them money.

Unless they are sending you a pre-paid postage envelope/box to send to them, how would that cost WOTC anything? It would cost YOU money to send it to them.

It costs a company money to process mail at their place if business. Not like, crazy amounts but someone has to open the box, see what's in it and figure out why it's there. It's probably going to cost them at least $2-$3 in time.

It's far from an effective way to cost them money, but it's $2 more than throwing a book away at your house.

Exactly They have to recieve, store, open, process and pay for the disposal of the items. Its nothing if 10 people do it, 10,000 people mailing back a box full of books becomes a logistical headache very quickly.
