What a fucking joke, if this is real and not a shitpost, since the officials from “Nobel” denied her first attempt.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's real but it's as stupid as it can get.

If tomorrow I meet a famous hollywood actor and they give me an Oscar statuette because I ask them for it, I still didn't win an Oscar. I just have a statuette of it, but I didn't win it.

Same happens here, just because he has the medal doesn't mean he has won a nobel prize

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It even has her name on it... It's just pathetic

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I don't see any information that the medal is engraved with the name of the recipient.

I am interested in ceremonies and logistics, can you tell me your source on this please?

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's worse. Here's a better pic of the prize you see in the photo.

if you zoom it, you can see just below the medal itself "The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal awarded to Maria Corina Machado"

It's utterly ridiculous.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ok, so the letter has her name, not the medal itself?

So I was right?

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m not the commenter, but:

The names of the chemistry, medicine, literature and physics prize recipients are engraved on the reverse of the medal on a small plate. The names of the peace and economic prize recipients are engraved on the edges of their medals.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ok, so not on the medal, right!

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It specifically says the name is engraved on the edge of the medal in the comment you are replying to, why are you so sure it’s not?

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You are indeed correct, I got several messages at the same time when I got this and only skimmed it at the time so I missed it.

I was also annoyed at the other replies talking about the name being on a plaque next to the medal when I asked for the medal itself.

So confusion and a slight annoyance contributed to the misunderstanding.

Sorry about that.

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

Understand, I appreciate it, just made for a confusing read.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Just... Zoom in on the picture.

Edit: ok this version is kinda low-res. You can see her name in the second plate

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, but that was not what I asked, I asked if the medal itself was engraved.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

According to Wikipedia, yes, on the back

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

On the edges. For the peace price, it says it's engraved on the edge of the medal.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

She can "donate" it but she can't give it away. The decision by the Nobel award committee is final. She's playing him and good on her for doing so.

He's emperor Nero. Also loved standing at a podium talking gibberish for hours, all about personal spectacle. Demands loyalty and pisses on institutions. Rewards flattery and punishes dissent. Reality is negotiable. Everything is performative theater, constantly names enemies who slighted him and blames others for his own mistakes. Same opulence fetish. They even fucking look the same, that same fat, dumb face, down to the combover:

Tell me how Trump isn't Nero reincarnated.
