Initially, many believed that the Oreshnik struck a gas storage site. I initially thought so too.
However, this seems to confirm that the target was the Lvov State Aviation Repair plant (LDARZ) and not the gas storage site.
3BM15 and AMK Mapping previously determined this on X and the Russian MoD just confirmed it.
Genuine question, is there any relevance of using the Oreshnik to the target? Wouldn't it have been possible to do similar damage with Kinzhal's and Kh-101's? I'm trying to understand if there's more to it besides the signalling of shooting a nuclear capable IRBM right next to Poland.
The Lvov State Aviation Repair Plant has been struck with cruise missiles before. I think the main purpose of this Oreshnik strike was to send a message to the west.
Pretty sure they said so on Russian TV news
It was said everywhere from local media in Ukraine to OSCE.
Reports of the gas storage site being struck was all over social media as well.
