Homie thirsts for the crown lol
He's continuously said he doesn't want a return to monarchy, that if he came back his one goal is to help Iranians escape regimes with a fair election.
Admittedly, I only know a few statements from him as I don't often follow Iranian news.
He also wants them to ally with Isreal (per his wikipedia), so I'm fine with not thinking he's worth listening to.
That's a pretty terrible take. Someone can be wrong and an asshole and still want democracy. I didn't even say he was genuine, I responded to the statement "he thirsts for the crown," which is a different debate. If you want to argue about his stance on Isreal, I agree — he's wrong.
I just don't think you are truly pro-democracy if you want to align with Isreal and are just using it as a dog whistle for "USA regieme change." And yeah maybe he doesn't want the title of crown, but how different is a "democracy" that is rigged so you keep winning?
Much different. But again, I was responding to a different statement — one that sounded like they hadn't read the article. Commenting without reading the thing is one of my pet peeves, so I clarified.
Maybe he wants a democracy as long as they vote for him, I really can't say. I have mixed feelings about reaching out to to the US for help, if I was a middle eastern country I would want to play nice with the USA, too. Hell, I live in Canada and follow politics, so I understand what it's like to make peace with a shitty neighbour.
In an ideal world he would call out the US for their crap, usher in a true, secular democracy, acknowledge and support Palestine, tell Isreal to go to hell, and quietly fade away.
Oh yeah that's a totally understandable pet peeve; I get where you're coming from.
Sometimes my satire is a bit too dry, apologies. I was doing my best “idiot hot take” à la Philomena Cunk or Ali G
Oh no worries, and my bad. I get people on every popular article who vehemently oppose actually reading it, I thought you were one of those.
I should try reading people's comments in different tones to get more perspective.
I could have also added a /s tag and I just forgot - thank you :)
I reponded to the statement about his "thirst for the crown" with his official statements about democracy, not whether his dad was a good guy.
The shah sucked and his family was rightly ousted, but thr prince was a kid when that happened.
We've all read the Wikipedia page.
I mean, I said I don't follow Iranian politics. So, pretty naive?
I still heard and read his statements on democracy, which is what I commented about. Never said I believed him.
Now I'm saying "This one guy is not this other guy. They may both suck, but they are definitely different people."
