What battle at home?
Look at russia, USA opposition resembles russian opposition more and more every day.
You ruin your own infrastructure -> more of your people will die and they would just shrug. Why do you think they would be investing in your country, that's just silly.
Why do you think they’d spend the time and money coming here? Resources? You make it painfully expensive and time consuming to get anything of value until he’s overthrown at home.
It’s how every other country has beat the US time and again after WWII. They haven’t won a single long term battle since.
They will do this because they can. To ruin, loot & rape. To assert dominance and spread fear.
I just apply russian logic here, because that's what he follows.
