General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

This is so weird for someone to do. Why cosplay as a soldier in the first place and then why decide to dress up as a rear admiral there's only about 10 rear admirals active in the RN at the moment and it's reasonable to expect anyone in the navy to know them all, even if they're only junior. Even including retirees there's only about 20 or so living people who could wear this uniform so he was bound to get caught out.
If you're determined to pretend to be an officer in the navy then just go as a captain or commander or something where you could reasonably go unnoticed but even so, the veterans I know can immediately spot someone out of place.
I just fail to see what he got out of all this apart from being able to stand at the front on remembrance day parades and not even be able to march in time!
People are so weird.
When I was at a religious summer camp (sleep over) one of the kids who had attended multiple years in a row told everyone his mom had cancer and didn't have much time left. Everyone was understandably sympathetic and people were referencing her specifically in group prayers and things like that. The camp director reached out to the family and they were like "what? No, she's fine."
Kids are weird and everyone knows the one who always made stuff up for the attention.
This guy is a 65 year old retired teacher.
Yeah. Adults are held to a higher standard than children. But in practice many adults aren't that much different from children.
Munchausen Syndrome
I am no expert, but my guess is that people like Mr. Wannabe Rear Admiral have a similar condition to this, despite not being health-related.
