ehhh after reading https://www.bfmtv.com/economie/international/elles-representaient-96-des-revenus-du-pays-avant-l-embargo-americain-les-gigantesques-reserves-de-petrole-du-venezuela-au-coeur-de-la-crise-entre-washington-et-caracas_AD-202601030187.html I think you’ve got credence but having thought about it I have to admit deep down it doesn’t really bother me

maybe it’s chopper style morality, the Venezuelan government was evil and awful, if the US takes it out and gets oil for itself so much the better, I hope the Venezuelan people benefit from not being under a dictatorship and it doesn’t turn into a Libyan style hellhole, I know María Corina Machado has been someone I have been cheering for so it does look like there is a credible stable government available:

In 2025, Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.[11]

A bit like if the US invaded North Korea for oil, tbh I wouldn’t be crying for Kim Jong Un or protesting the US, sometimes it is what it is, a bit like Syria having multiple bad guys fighting each other, sometimes there’s no one to cheer for

I want the exact opposite for Ukraine and Greenland and anywhere else that are objectively good guys

hopefully at least by 2027 I can spell Venezuela without needing spell check

Here's my favorite part.

lol that Deceptichum was the one to point this out. Imagine being enough of a turd for them to successfully call you out, real heartbreaking moment.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Deceptichum is usually more correct when it comes to opposing common fascists and Nazis (save for the Banderites in Kiev), the problem comes whenever there's someone to their left. They care less about truth and more about beating anyone they ideologically disagree with with whatever club is nearby, which is why they repeat red scare dogma and retreat to petty insults whenever given hard evidence to the contrary, such as when they claimed Nazis in Hungary that were lynching Jews and communists were smol bean "pro-democracy protestors." This behavior gives the impression that they feel that their ideology can't hold if the world isn't black and white, almost Marvel-esque.

They're so fundamentally anti-communist that this rewrites history for them. Their theories of "soviet imperialism," or conflating Hungarian Nazis with "pro-democracy protestors," all of it is just venemous left-punching to the point of Nazi apologia.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’ve only come across their anti-communist posts. Still, if you’re that vehemently against communism, are you really right about fascists either?

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They sometimes have decent posts, like this one. The problem is that they also believe the western imperialists on everything they say about their geopolitical enemies. It's the kind of "all sides bad" and pure support of martyrs and underdogs in all situations that leads them to Marvel-esque confusion. To succeed is a sin, it means your socialism wasn't pure enough.

So they are right about fascists not because of any good analysis or skills, but by accident, because fascists oppose their style of anarchism. It's the kind of anti-fascism that has enough holes in it for fascists to exploit, such as their support for the Banderites, or the Hungarian Nazis.
