It must be difficult to be an American watching Trump destroy the country your ancestors have been building for hundreds of years. He has caused massive generational and irreversible damage at this point and its only getting worse.

Oh, and China just set a trade surplus record above 1 trillion thanks to Trump, first and only country to do that, how is all that winning going?

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 64 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

What’s even harder is watching family and neighbors try to explain why it’s a good thing.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Time to cut those people out of your life. It’s hard, but you know it’s true.

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

I basically already have (years ago). But when you’ve got family that hasn’t been cut off, the ones who have still manage to make appearances.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Some of those morons need an exit ramp

Can't, my grandmother is elderly and I'm the only one of her kids/grandkids who talks to her, not really her fault on that one my mother is insane my uncle was stupid and the other grandkids are more or less different family outside of blood due to custody or cutoff reasons. Also she is also effectively my mother and is the woman who raised me.

Figure I can work out any frustration by car bombing random trumpers if a civil war breaks out.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I wonder how they'll spin it when he publicly burns the constitution

[–] sploder@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

From my experience they just say “ that didn’t really happen, that was twisted into a lie, he wouldn’t ever do that “ - these people never, ever admit anything that is proven to be true. It’s always some contrarian, idiotic “ I know better than you “ take. It’s hopeless.

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yep. ‘What about when Joe Biden made us all wear masks and fired anyone who wouldn’t.’ And then everything gets de-railed trying to explain that Biden was not president at that time.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

No, I think they'll celebrate it

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

It's all going exactly as everyone with 2+ braincells predicted.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

It’s insanely difficult. All of this shit has substantially changed who I am at my core. I opted not to leave the country a few years back because my parents wouldn’t have been able to get in anywhere else for being too old.

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Now I’m pretty much waiting around for this whole thing to get rebooted.

That's part of the problem. Everyone is standing around waiting for someone else to fix it for them.

You gotta pull together with others and work as a group to fight back.

I know group cooperation towards a common goal runs counter to the "nation of rugged individuals " mythos that Americans have for themselves, but that's what it will take.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What's with all these ca accounts vying for open revolt.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Where did I advocate for revolt or violence?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You gotta pull together with others and work as a group to fight back.

There have been protests nearly every single day since he took office. We're already grouped together fighting back so you're either uninformed or you're calling for open revolt.

So which is it.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There have been protests nearly every single day since he took office

Isolated and uncoordinated protests.

And not nearly big enough.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're not though.

And we had the largest protest in American history like 5 months ago.

So again you're uninformed or backing open revolt.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And we had the largest protest in American history like 5 months ago.

Oooooo...

5 whole months ago.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah just ignore the fact that the largest protest ever isn't big enough for you.

You're after open revolt, just say it and at least be honest. You'll still be an armchair revolutionary but at least a slightly less pathetic one.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

just ignore the fact that the largest protest ever isn't big enough for you.

It may have been the biggest the US has done, but it was obviously not big enough to cause an inconvenienceto those in power.

And not sustained enough.

Protesting isn't a one-and-done thing. You have to keep the pressure on.

You're after open revolt

And you keep trying to put words in my mouth.

Whatever, it's not my country. If you guys can't be bothered to even protest effectively, thats on you.

We're in the process of decoupling our economy from the US anyway.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

So again, not big enough for you.

They're are still protests literally every day.

I'm not, I'm drawing the logical conclusion to your argument. Large sustained protests generally turn violent so you're calling for open revolt.

It's not whatever decouple as much as you'd like you'll still see the backlash of whatever happens here. Similarly no one asked you, you offered your opinion so clearly it does matter to you and isn't "whatever" just be honest in what you're saying.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)
[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How far are you from your state legislature? Or from your congressman's office?

And, again, have you got together with other people to combine your voices?

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I'm involved with DSA in my area.

I think we're talking about different solutions.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

I'm involved with DSA in my area.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

Welp I guess that's it then

[–] PhAzE@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It can't be rebooted until the series finale ends... in civil war.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah, we're in a mid-season plot stretch to see if this administration can "weekend at Bernie's" a vapid blathering demential patient for another year so that JD Vance can get 2.5 terms as president.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

My ancestors were forced from their land by the American government in an event known as the Trail of Tears. So this is kinda a mixed bag for me really…
