Oh God, that reminds me of an academic article I read this year going over a primary source of the Crusades, mentioning men who were starving in an army and city which had food.

But there was no method of redistribution. Everything was so ad hoc that even common soldiers were in charge of getting their own provisions. Men who had run out of money (as they were also in charge of provisioning themselves on the way there ) were stealing food from each other, the merchants, and their lords - and getting hanged for it.

Man is hungry. Give him some damn food, have some Christian charity on this damn Crusade.

But I guess that really encapsulates the irony of the Crusades.

It never ceases to amaze me how my stupid brain makes a joke in response to one of your historical posts for completely unrelated reasons, and then learning how it aftually is relevant somehow. It's happend a few times now (for example this time I was just thinking of Henry from KCD2 being the crusader in the meme) lol
