i had a case about that last year. a company ordered a survey of marketing professionals. they were greedy so they chose a weird structure that excluded demographic dimensions such as gender and age because "these are obsolete terms". ok. we ran a survey - sent it over. the next day - "oh can you break down by the demographic dimensions too?" - the answer was "no" because they literally excluded all those things themselves. but then they asked "why?" and i tried explaining that that's not how it works and then they asked "but you did it anyway, right?" - and then that look on the face when they realized that we didn't because we weren't paid for that. in their mind they would pay less for a reduced survey but since i'm a sinister malicious individual who has nothing better to do than to hoard data for the sake of it - i'll run the full survey anyway and when they start bitching about the quality of results I'll be forced to add it back so they will a full survey but pay 20% less.

I thought Gender was the correct term, and it's Sex that's obsolete, but more as being interchangeable with Gender?

I thought both terms were fine and that it was binary gender that was outdated?

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

That's what I mean. Sex is clinical. You're born as either male or female. Gender was traditionally used interchangeably, but that's obsolete. Gender is what you identify as.

depends on which form template they ripped from.
