Plot twist: they're vegetarians enjoying traditional Scandinavian vegetarian fare of beer and shots followed by a cigarette.
A family friend once relayed a story about visiting his wife's family in either Sweden or Denmark (I'm pretty sure it was one of those two), wherein at a meal they were drinking hard liquor. He took a shot simply when everyone else did, not wanting to seem impolite or out of place. One of his in-laws commented afterwards that he was impressed that, for an American, he drank like a Swede/Dane (again, I don't remember which country it was)
The guy said he was barely keeping it together, and if he'd known keeping up with the rest of them was going to be impressive instead of polite, he'd've accepted being known as a lightweight American. XD
Together with some colleagues I was invited to the wedding of a Slovak friend. I think the father of the bride either tried to kill us, or wanted to test our German limits. So much slivovica 😵💫
I think he tested and approved us, the next day he gave each of us our own bottle and was a great guy. Slovakia is great, the people are, the slivovica is and the food was as well. If you ever get invited to a wedding there, don't hesitate! And try Kofola!
