Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Hello fellow Peak Souls enjoyers, this is my first post here. I'm interessted in knowing what you people with great taste especially like about PS2 and it's slightly different gameplay from the other souls games.

I especially liked the consumable healing items (Lifestones) that you had to use in the early parts of the game and are still intecivised to use later in the game. It just made you interact with your consumable slots while in other souls games you could comfortably play casually by just staying on your flask the whole time.

Bonfire Ascetics for sure. Missed them is every other game and I have no idea why they haven't made a return.

Beyond the obvious I'd also like to add the ability to powerstance different types of weapons (like rapier+dagger). The wakisashi in ER tries to be that, but it falls short since it loses the ability to powerstance with daggers.

This coupled well with the mechanic where enemies would disappear permanently after defeating them so many times. If you decided to grind an area for levels after awhile you would run out and need to move on or burn an ascetic to get them back... But harder.

I kind of liked the disappearing enemies thing too. If you were struggling it sort of gave an adaptive difficulty. There were one or two areas where it was a fucking relief not having to do a fight on my way back through.
