Holy shitballs Batman! Half my F-Droid apps have updates tonight. Did something happen that required a bunch of critical updates, or it is just the team getting a bunch of tasks ticked off all (mastodon.nzoss.nz)

I can't speak to any F-droid apps specifically but every team I've worked with always tried to push their last update for the year on Wednesday the week before Christmas. Usually still enough developers active to fix any issue that arises and not close enough to eat into most big Christmas activities or weekend plans. Could just be that
