People are allowed to not like things dude

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, and a lot of people turn that into their entire personality.

The person you're replying to, in the comment you're replying to, said they love New Vegas, so clearly not their whole personality.

Are you sure you don't just dislike the fact that they don't like the show? How do you feel about the show?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

My opinion is the norm. It's backed up by critics and fans. I want to know what specifically this person has against the show, because it seems like some fans just love to hate regardless of quality.

It's just strange, it feels like you're approaching this with some weird hostility rather than just being genuinely curious about what they don't like.

It feels like you're trying to figure out if they have a good enough reason to be allowed to not like the show that you do. 🤷‍♂️

You don't think it's weird that the haters can never explain why?

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago

He definitely explained why. Read again.

[–] nostrauxendar@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't keep up with why people do or don't like things that I don't have strong feelings about, but I would put money on "haters" having their own reasons for not liking this show, and you simply rejecting those explanations, based on this conversation.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No nobody can say why. They just throw around vagueries like "bad writing" "it's not like the game" it's meaningless without explanation, but they never even try. I would even totally accept "too silly" or "meh wasn't my thing" but no, they bash it in a way that you're left unsure if they even watched it at all.

[–] nostrauxendar@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What's the difference between "too silly" and "bad writing"? You've got to be pulling my leg at this point man 😂😂

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Too silly is an opinion, opinions can't be wrong. Bad writing is trying to establish a fact that isn't there.

[–] nostrauxendar@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Right okay, well fair enough, good luck 👍

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

You do realize that "the show has bad writing" implies "I think the show has bad writing", right?

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

Have you considered that your opinion is the norm because they appealed to mainstream instead of a core audience?

Art that tries to appeal to everyone will inevitably alienate some people.

Lol cope, Trump got elected twice just because something is popular doesn't mean it isn't trash

The show is sloppy with the lore. The only hint of a prewar faction other than America is the crashed USSR satellite. Which kinda implies a Russian role in the conflict leading to the Great War (it was the US vs China).

The prewar conflict is retconned to be a Cold War Communism vs Capitalism situation, when the war was spurred by global resource shortages and inflation.

There's no hint of organized civilization in an area previously occupied by a state so large that it was building railroads, manufacturing concrete and weapons, and expanding East.

Not that they can't retcon some stuff in Season 2, but they did say that every faction will think they "won New Vegas." That could mean many different things, but given how devastated all the factions you don't side with after NV are, none of them seem like particularly well-considered decisions to me.

I enjoyed the world that Fallout built on the West Coast, which was at that point just a modern society. The show scrapped it to present a total wasteland, when there are so many new settings already alluded to in the lore.
