This was a simple quid pro quo for Lander stepping aside in the primary.

Deals with the devil, now we get a progressive Zionist in office

[–] Biddles@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Better than a centrist, aipac funded Zionist, no?

And worse than an antizionist DSA member, no? He just is a Zionist for the love of the game instead of money

Don’t worry, I know he’s the lesser of two evils (now that Mamdani coronated him over Avilés). Biden better than Trump and all that

Biden better than Trump and all that

i dislike this comparison because there's a meaningful difference between "nothing will fundamentally change" and the socdem "we should improve things somewhat"

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

True, it’s national socialism, we’ll give you buses and trains that run on time, in exchange for continuing the Zionism and imperialism

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

mayors famously having power over international matters.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s why he can support lander and keep Tisch on, right, because surrounding yourself with Zionists doesn’t matter when you’re only the smol bean mayor of New York City

[–] Biddles@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why don't you run for mayor of New York if you're so sure of what is to be done?

Do you realize how much like democrat-speak that sounds? But interesting that you’ve chosen to die on the Zionist hill

Specifically name dropping Elbit would be hilarious if he wasn’t bragging about money made off of Palestinian corpses

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 8 points 4 weeks ago

Making sure to mention how much you support IG Farben during the Holocaust, lmao.

And quite frankly, Lander probably has a much better shot at winning that primary, Mamdani endorsement or no. So there’s some realpolitik in play as well.

Why endorse at all? Why not just do what he promised, just keep his mouth shut and focus on his plan for running the city?

Obama 2.0, that's why. Dude is already planning for the future.

We'll see if he is able to convert into something for anyone other than himself, but right now, by centering everything around purely himself without anything to show for it, without even honoring a vote, he is setting up the political machine to be around himself and no one else, which is mighty dangerous for someone who is supposedly challenging the system. Even Lenin at least entertained a pretense towards democratic decisions within the party, even if he liked to stack the deck. At this point DSA is literally more 'authoritarian' than the Bolsheviks.

Obama 2.0, that's why. Dude is already planning for the future.

He can’t be a literal Obama 2.0, as he wasn’t born in the US and thus can’t be president. Even if we’re talking about a more small-scale Obama, mayor of NYC is a notorious political dead end. There’s a long history of politicians trying and failing to translate being mayor into higher offices. If this some Machiavellian power scheme, and not just bog standard “you scratched my back now I’ll scratch yours” politics, it’s a bad one.

Obama is just the most convenient example, I've seen dozens of progressive politicians do the same thing as Zohran here, and it usually ends as the gravy train of speaking gigs for non-profits and universities. This type of person is what San Francisco was built on.
