I call these Thought Poisons. They're legitimately dangerous for some. I aborted reading the comment when i saw the direction it was headed. 😋

I define it thusly:
A Thought Poison is a specific type of harmful or toxic mental construct that adversely affects a person’s psychological and emotional state. These thoughts can be pervasive, self-destructive, or deeply unsettling, and may cause an individual to spiral into feelings of anxiety, depression, paranoia, or hopelessness. Thought Poisons can also do damage over time by altering one’s perception of reality, self-worth, and future, much like how poison can slowly damage the body.

OTOH, if this is the case, the alternative is denial.

Everyone has had situations in which they’ve avoided spending time with someone because it would have been a downer, due to that person being difficult, annoying or otherwise unpleasant. That is a thing that happens, and pretending it doesn’t won’t make it go away. The good news is that if you know that something you do gets people down and makes them less likely to make time for you, you can change it, or compensate for it in another way. If you remain in denial, that path is closed to you.
