Communists were overtaken peacefully, fascists violently.
Communists? You mean all those dictatorships?
Dictatorship of the proletariat, yes.
The ones that voted to disolve?
Yes, after the dictatorship had fallen, remember?
Riddle me this; how many voted and were allowed to leave before the fall?
Also, before the fall of the ruling party, how fair were the elections? Do you seriously believe multiple competing parties were allowed for election and despite all that the people were so happy that all of them always voted for the communist party?
Free and fair elections in Soviet Union. That's definitely what soviets were known for.
You could always vote against the party. We have their votes, you can even see them in wikipedia. In the same way that the capitalist party in the US operates, you get to choose between pre-picked candidates beholden to the same group of capitalists. You could run as an independent just like here today, and never be recognized by the group that chooses who gets to run.
You were refuting them having elections, dont mobe the goal post silly :) Were they free and fair? As much as the current US elections are free and fair, if not more (I am ignoring the huge elephant, gerrymandering, too).
Originally I was saying they were dictatorships and I stand on that point.
There have never been a proper people's republic.
Well, scandinavian wellfare state has been the closest there have been, ironically. Not any of the communist countries.
