Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

It's gotten better for me, but I've had a long stretch of time where I essentially didn't touch other games because they felt unfulfilling and boring after learning to love soulslikes.

Some games which I very likely would enjoy, like Horizon Forbidden West or Tears of the Kingdom, just don't lure me in as much as they would have a couple years ago. The combat and open world felt so bland in comparison to a soulslike. Even though soulslike gameplay can be very dull depending on your build and good level design can make or break a soulslike.

Might also explain why I dislike Elden Ring - it carries over from other open world games.

I've gotten to a point where I've had my full of soulslikes for the most part, so my willingness to invest more time into them has waned over the past couple months. Khazan and DS3, as well as Lies of P, were a lot of fun, but it's nowhere near as much of my main gaming focus as it was a few years ago.

Has something like that ever happened to you? What did you do to combat that?

It certainly makes me realize how bullshit some games difficulty actually is. Went back to the Witcher 3 recently, and my God it's difficult to see attacks coming sometimes.
