i.e. "Canadians don't like being exploited so we need people from India who don't mind it or simply don't know any better".
Why the hell should we bring over people from half way across the world to serve shitty coffee and crappy food? Canadians WILL work these jobs if you pay them enough. If you can't pay the people that already live here a decent wage then shut down. The fact they feel they have to bring in people from India and pay them shit shouldn't be tolerated.
Bringing in cheap TFW also screws up the coffee/hospitality industry. Lots of local people would start their own coffee shop, serve sandwiches, it's not rocket science. But there is no way to compete with a company that brings in TFW. So you're left with bad food, and an unpleasant place to sit. Nowadays the shops are dirty and uncomfortable. Also cause high local unemployment, of people that could start a small business but it's not a fair playing field. Even if a local starts a coffee shop and fails, they learnt many valuable skills; accounting, permit applications, human resourcing. The coffee shop was a place to start for a local needing to make money and move up in life. That's why I hate places like Tim Hortons and Starbucks, and all the chains.
TFW should be brought in, but there should be a $50K application fee per worker per year, to insure that these jobs are for understaffed specialist positions.
50k application fee from the employer, and that goes straight to college and universities to eliminate the need over time.
Thank you! I've got nothing against immigration, it's an important part of any healthy society. But I always bristled at the idea we need them to do our shit jobs.
What does that say about us as a society that we can't build our own homes, serve our own food? That we need a steady supply of desperate dark skinned people to fill these roles at rates we would turn our noses up at? Nothing good.
It's the modern version of importing slaves.
Importing wage slaves.
What it says is that we will always prioritize money and convenience over quality or societal health. Simple as.
Yes, I sometimes have this conversation with my spouse. They want to grab something off amazon at $29, and I'm like If you wait a day I can grab it at the local pharmacy for $8.99. Buying it at $29 is just driving prices up.
Amazon is the perfect example of capitalism metasticizing and killing society.
It is good for companies to innovate, reduce costs, etc.
It is terrible for those companies to then become so powerful they can control legislation and crush any further competition for all perpetuity.
Capitalism is fantastic, until you realize that without strong regulation, companies will simply squeeze everything beneath them in the name of profit.
I worked in logistics and supply chain for over a decade. Let me tell you, you know shit is broken when all you see is fealty to the largest companies.
Small business pays 2000 for a container? Walmart is paying 200. Why? Because Walmart brings in so much business that any shipping company would drown a million bags of kittens just to get a slice, so they in turn quote low, and squeeze anyone they have power over (suppliers, staff)
It's a sick game, and it's killing us.
You vastly overestimate the number of people who would choose higher prices in order to support higher wages. Vastly. I mean you almost sound crazy the idea is so out there. I wish you you were right though FWIW.
As a whole, society rewards the lowest acceptable quality at the lowest possible price. It's called capitalism and it is, in fact, the direct cause of the in progress collapse of civilization. And there's nothing you can do to stop it, because your neighbor will still happily line up for 15 minutes to get a lukewarm, incompletely cut bagel with 98% of the cream cheese on one side, with a mediocre coffee, served by a temporary foreign worker.
It's not the immigrants/TFWs, it never was, it never will be.
Nobody here is blaming the immigrants.
It's the abusive bosses who are using (and abusing) TFWs to suppress wages who are at fault.
Fair enough, that was more of a screaming info the void kind of statement for any MAGA/Maple MAGA chuds who might be reading
You will still be banned on Reddit for pointing it out though. Say immigrants are being exploited? BANNED.
Depends where on reddit. There are still plenty of left leaning spaces over there.
I was also talking about left leaning spaces. /r/canada mods for example support mass immigration, and will ban you if you mention immigrants are being exploited, or companies are doing shit like Timmies is.
I agree with you but lets be fair here prices are going to go up regardless. in fact they have gone up regardless of the fact the majority of fast food places are now run by TFWs. But I feel like it's either one excuse over another "prices have gone up because you won't allow us to use TFWs" or "prices have gone up because of something else even though every store is now 100% TFW."
