Shocked it's regular Virginia and not west Virginia

DW, it's in the county locally referred to as "Klan-over" so it's not too far off

Is West Virginia known for being a heavily racist state? I heard the state was originally founded by splitting off from Virginia during the Civil War to join the north. So as far as I know, it's the only state that was explicitly founded as a fight against slavery.

Not really. West Virginians are more stereotyped as uneducated and impoverished. Like you expect some bigotry, but the kind that can be soothed over by a few pies and a couple years of hard work alongside them in the community.

Regular Virginia on the other hand, is stereotyped as a middle class, very white, former confederate state that's gone swing in recent decades. You don't expect someone to start saying overtly racist shit because they're Virginian, but if they do, it's gonna be bad and you're not shocked.

and a demographically noticeable amount of folk resettled from the south to tennessee and kentucky because they fought for the union.
