If you swallow too much at once it overextends the esophagus. This causes it to spasm. That is why it hurts sometimes.

My favourite little bird, the lowly barn swallow. Incredibly social, they gather on the power lines and twitter at each other when a storm is coming. Lightning fast, and voracious mosquito eaters, and they keep their nests incredibly clean, carrying out their droppings from the building.
I love barn swallows.

Jokes on you, I get muscle spasms all the time.
Same. Especially in my back. I end up having to lay down on the floor just to help stabilize and stretch.

I haven't seen a doctor in over 10 years.
That sounds like an issue. You should get physical blood work done at the very least, if able.
