I haven't looked at one of these sorts of reply cesspits in a while, and it's funny how there are still Ghost of Kiev types insisting that Ukraine's total victory is imminent. I'm just going to tell myself that those are bots.
Any day now, Steiner will counterattack!
It is kind of fascinating just how manufactured their reality is at this point, they honestly still insist that every Ukrainian soldier is racking up kill streaks in the hundreds and the Ukrainian armed forces are a week away from Moscow, even while the same press that pushed those ideas onto them is backpedalling like mad right now.
The Ukraine war propaganda is terrifying, it is probably the most successful bit of manufacturing consent I've ever seen, and so many people seem to be so invested in the lies that they might not ever actually change their mind on them. I can't think of it ever being this bad, even the Iraq war wasn't this all-consuming.
The post Oct-7 anti-Hamas propaganda was the most intense, IMO. But Ukraine is a close second.
Libs live in alternate reality. They always have, but the more time goes on the more the contradictions grip their brains like a vice.
They can't admit they're wrong about Ukraine, otherwise they'd have to admit that everything they believed in the last 3 years was a complete lie.
In the same way, they can't admit that the institutions in society that they've trusted their whole lives are actually evil, and we are the bad guys on the world stage. It would cause too much cognitive dissonance.
Nobody likes that! So they double down instead and become increasingly unhinged.
It was much more all encompassing, but despite that, millions of people even in the heart of empire saw through it, it wasn't very successful in making people in the west sympathise with genocidaires, even when most people in the west previously had sympathised with them. There have been a lot of pro-Palestine protests, despite the media and police response to them. But I haven't seen any "stop the war" protests in the west trying to put an end to the Ukraine war.
And I think this is why libs always end up trailing 3-5 years behind conservatives on unhinged nonsense, the conservatives have always been living in a "post truth" headspace, but libs are still in denial about it.
That's quite a good point, come to think of it.
Might be because the Gaza holocaust is an extremely obvious genocide, whereas the details of the NATO proxy war in Ukraine are harder to understand due to geopolitical complexities.
But there is definitely no daylight in the foreign policy overton window for anti-war voices. At least here in KKKanada
. We just immediately get accused of being pro-Russia and repeating their "talking points" whatever that means. The only person of any significance who is anti-NATO is Yves Engler, and he's being systematically excluded from the national conversation.
Honestly, seeing the entire western world simultaneously gearing up in lock step for the impending geopolitical showdown between the old powers and the new is fucking terrifying, and very few people see this coming.
The whole of Europe and KKKanada are all cutting social services at the same time and putting all that money into the military.
Damn what a coincidence right?
In Europe there have been quite a few mobilizations (quite small though, only a few thousand at a time usually)
My father is like that, he believes Amerikkkan institutions are a force of good in the world (we are in Europe) and he is all in on the Putler lib rethoric. Even worse, he has a friend who has the exact same way of thinking about the situation and they end up reinforcing their biases like crazy, by doing geopolitics big brain conversation.
Any attempt I've made at switching the point of view about the situation is shut down immediately. More and more, I think, is refusal to admit being wrong for the last few years like you said.
European media is fucking horrible about Ukraine, pure propaganda for Western "civilization"
I've noticed that libs seem to do this by matter of instinct, regardless of what country they reside in.
I've never bothered pressing them on it because what's the point, but sometimes I think it would be amusing to do so.
