It's a two way street after all, being a doormat sucks. Try to establish boundaries, ask for help, and say no when you need to.

That, and also upbringing, like not necessarily even being aware of things being wrong or abusive. It's part of why it's important to talk about stuff like this, since it's easy to internalize and normalize things—especially as a first experience.
