Generally the idea is since it would take something like nanobots to repair the damage from freezing, whatever killed them is a simple repair beyond that.

It's not really about what is practical and feasible to recover from, it's just about what can get them the furthest into the future as intact as possible. Since it's gonna take decades or centuries for there to be any chance of success.
