Lefty Memes
An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.
Agitprop (I.E. everything that would be more fitting on a poster than a meme) goes here.
Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.
If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.
Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!
Rules
0. Only post socialist memes
That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme. Please post agitprop here)
0.5 [Provisional Rule] Use alt text or image descriptions to allow greater accessibility
(Please take a look at our wiki page for the guidelines on how to actually write alternative text!)
We require alternative text (from now referred to as "alt text") to be added to all posts/comments containing media, such as images, animated GIFs, videos, audio files, and custom emojis.
EDIT: For files you share in the comments, a simple summary should be enough if they’re too complex.
We are committed to social equity and to reducing barriers of entry, including (digital) communication and culture. It takes each of us only a few moments to make a whole world of content (more) accessible to a bunch of folks.
When alt text is absent, a reminder will be issued. If you don't add the missing alt text within 48 hours, the post will be removed. No hard feelings.
0.5.1 Style tip about abbreviations and short forms
When writing stuff like "lol" and "iirc", it's a good idea to try and replace those with their all caps counterpart
- ofc => OFC
- af = AF
- ok => OK
- lol => LOL
- bc => BC
- bs => BS
- iirc => IIRC
- cia => CIA
- nato => Nato (you don't spell it when talking, right?)
- usa => USA
- prc => PRC
- etc.
Why? Because otherwise (AFAIK), screen readers will try to read them out as actually words instead of spelling them
1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here
Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.
2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such
That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.
3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.
That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).
4. No Bigotry.
The only dangerous minority is the rich.
5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.
We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.
(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)
6. Don't irrationally idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.
Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.
- Absolutely no posts or comments meant to relativize(/apologize for), advocate, promote or defend:
- Racism
- Sexism
- Queerphobia
- Ableism
- Classism
- Rape or assault
- Genocide/ethnic cleansing or (mass) deportations
- Fascism
- (National) chauvinism
- Orientalism
- Colonialism or Imperialism (and their neo- counterparts)
- Zionism
- Religious fundamentalism of any kind

They youre a fucking idiot. Whatever benefits you have or dont have, are due to circumstance. If I cut your dick off, do you all of sudden lose all your "privilege"? Its a shitty buzzword used to make other people feel like shit, and to shitty people off for their shitty actions. Like all the women screaming about white male privilege, like they werent standing right fucking next to us for hundreds of years.
Being male doesn't end at my private parts. If you cut off my dick, I'm still a guy and still have some level of advantage simply because I'm male. I hope you find some level of comfort in this life, cause you seem abnormally angry.
I love how your able to make such blanket statements made on one simple comment.
What I hope you do, is pull your head out of arse, and stop playing the game of being perpetually online and chatting utter shit for culture war points.
All the love to you homie. Please find some peace.
Ill find it tonight, while fucking your mum.
My mom is lesbian, so I really hope your username isn't literal. But so long as you treat her right, I'm cool with you fucking her.

Privilege is not a binary concept. You can be privileged in one regard and under-privileged in another, also known as intersectionality.
You can be a straight white male and still be under-privileged as a person born to poor socioeconomic conditions, work in an underpaid job, have a disability, couldn't afford higher education, be secular, and so on.
Being privileged in one regard doesn't erase your under-privileged circumstances in another. Women are simply asking for men to acknowledge that there are circumstances made more difficult in life by virtue of being a woman.
A great example is how women typical receive poorer outcomes in modern medicine because of how their symptoms are downplayed and dismissed, but are acknowledged when they happen to men. Your statistical probability of getting better healthcare for being a man, doesn't negate your statistical probability of getting worse healthcare due to other forms of systemic discrimination like those against poorer patients or chronically ill patients.
Its almost like, we should shit on anyone for having more than we do because being rich in one area, doesnt mean you are in all areas... But the people who talk about "privilege", are making sweeping statements about the group. Im a man, so therefore I can possibly having any problems. "Wont someone think of the poor straight white man?" is something commonly said about the perpetually online.
When I was a boy, a girl asked me out. I said no, cos I knew she was crazy. To get back at me, she told her friends that I raped her. My "privilege" got me kicked out of school, arrested, beaten up, and eventually stabbed. We talk about no one believing women, but thats bullshit. Men are ALWAYS automatically assumed to be the asshole. But because rich assholes, got away with so much abuse, all of a sudden its "all men" and if you dare say "its not all men", all of sudden that too is problem.
But the biggest problem? That rape that didnt happen, thats counted as one of the "not convicted" rape statistics. The fact that I wasnt cleared, because how do you prove a negative? Still counts as a rape, even though it didnt happen. Even though I was convicted. I am still part of the state that men get away with rape, because the system hates women. I am considered a rapist, because some girl who couldnt take a rejection on the chin. And yet, apparently the only thing men have to worry about is being embarrassed. Ill remind you again, I was routinly beaten up, and eventually stabbed on the say so of one mixed up teenage girl. THAT is what its like to be a man. Once you get that finger pointed at you, youre fucked. But because rich men can buy their way out of it, all of sudden, we are all scum who get away with it.
People are just people. Men, women, gay, straight, black white, tall, short, fat, thin. All of us have things in the plus an minus column. Calling it "privilege" is an internet buzzword used to attack people. Thats its only function. Just like every other well worn internet buzzword. Boomer or millennial, like the year you were born has any baring on your personality. Honestly, fuck the internet for it its turned so many people into. We spend all our time now, looking for how much a victim we can make ourselves out to be by making others look like cunts. We dont raise ourselves up, we tear others down. And its not even about feeling better about where we are in life, its just about worthless internet points. Likes, shares, subscribes, all while spouting popular things. Its just all so... pathetic.
Why were you not this verbose when insulting me?
It's my female privilege. I get the pleasure of hearing this guy talk more lmao.
Checking back in a few days later while heavily intoxicated.
Fuck this comment is sending me
False accusations are inexcusable and can ruin men's lives and hurt the integrity of real reports by other women. I'm sorry if this is something you went through.
However, two things can be true at the same time. False accusations are bad, and the rates of unreported sexual assault far eclipse that of false accusations.
Male privilege does not mean that all aspects of men's lives are easier, only that you have better statistical odds compared to a woman in identical circumstances as you.
Acknowledging male privilege isn't an act of denying the existence of men's issues. It's about acknowledging women's issues that were not visible to men until it was pointed out.
