It's just more addictive now. Even just having content serialized means there's no natural break like there used to be. So you would have the show you wanted to watch, and make sure you caught it, the episode is 30 minutes interrupted constantly by ads, then it changes to something different that maybe you don't like as much
So the content couldn't quite get its hooks into you like it can now. Binge watching wasn't really a thing.
Yeah that is a very good point. Kids these days
will never understand what it was like to miss an episode of your favourite show and then never, ever being able to see it again for the rest of your life.
