Could it be a "input false names to pump up the numbers and meet quotas...plus claim that sweet bonus" type thing?
This. People assume MAGA are all some great masterminds but forget most seem completely incompetent and fail forwards. I could see someone making up names (Enrique Sanchez, sounds Mexican enough, write it down) in order to get bonuses rather than legitimately disappearing thousands of people.
kinda like how the russian filtration camps did, obscure the names of the ukrainian children and disappear them.
That's an interesting hypothesis. Let's roll with it. You're suggesting that people are cooking the books to make it look like they're arresting people who don't actually exist, so that they can get bonuses, knowing that the obvious implication is that the people they arrested are secretly being deported or killed. Is that what you're hypothesizing they are doing?
Of course, it's theoretically possible. One could try to do that. But most people wouldn't want to make themselves look like mass murderers, like Nazis. Unless they actually are Nazis, but then they would just do the bad actions instead of faking them.
