Geography alone makes an invasion of the US mainland practically impossible. No army in the world has the means to even try. I mean the Canadians and Mexicans could, but that's a bit of a stretch.

That would be tough because many or most people living close to the borders tend to see the people on the immediate other side of the border as friends, relations, allies.
