Honestly I don't even know if it's a trans thing or a he likes crossdressing thing. Because the dude reacts so fucken weird to it all that I don't even know what's going on with it. Hell it could be that he is repressed in some entirely separate way and it's manifesting in weird ways at this point, kinda like how sexually repressed folks start to do weirdly pseudosexually things.
