Most people who actually like astrology are aware it’s bullshit, people who take it seriously are a fringe minority

People always say this, but a lot of those same people then turn around and make major life decisions based on astrology.
Sometimes I wonder if it's a way to cope with decision paralysis and the fear of choosing wrong when there's no clear winner. Acting as a sort of tiebreaker and if you end up regretting your decision later you can say "wasn't my call, it was the stars.'"
It's pretty big in some Asian countries still, like Sri Lanka, and they take it VERY seriously.
but why? if you know it's bullshit why even bother with it?
Why bother with anything? Because I enjoy it and find it interesting.
Same reason as someone might enjoy something like professional wrestling, if I had to guess.
Pro Wrestling is a performance, a performance that's fun to watch.
My objection is that it's fun that requires projecting values on other people. You are making a VALUE judgement when you say they're a Sagittarius Rising or whatever. Even if it is true as astrology fans say that there are not inherently bad signs, you are still ascribing immutable characteristics to people based on things out of their control, even if none of those characteristics are inherently bad.
I don't see how that's an element in Pro Wrestling, I'm not projecting any values on anyone by watching Jake the Snake pile drive CK Punk.

At that point you've kind of reached the level of "Why do people enjoy fiction if they know it's not real"
fiction doesn't have kayfabe the way wrestling does. it doesn't pretend to be real and doesn't need the pretense of being real to function, unlike wrestling (and presumably astrology)
What do you think suspension of disbelief is?
Do you understand why people like to watch theater or movies?
theater and movies don't claim to be real, it's not the same thing
Wrestling only pretends to be real on the absolute surface, but you're supposed to understand that it's fiction. Once you're past that detail its fundamentally just a very specific type of theater.
