it's such an insane own goal that i thought it had to be satire, but the rest of it really does track with bailout-seeking behavior from private equity ghouls

No then you get blamed for not locking the door. Anyway they don't have anything in there worth stealing, the most valuable thing in there is probably the carpet squares.
