Do football clubs have insurance for the possibility of the death (or career ending injury) for their players? In terms of finances the players are assets and have book value. Companies often have insurance for important assets. Does anyone know how that works for football clubs?

I think they do - check out this story about Cardiff City and a court case about whether Emiliano Sala was insured or not. It suggests that this sort of insurance is normal.
