Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Consider speaking about what you know.

Germans love Nazi thought so long as you remove the aesthetics. White supremacy? Scapegoating ethnicities? Anticommunism? Imperialist ambitions and exploitation? They've got it in spades and will very condescendingly tell you how smart they are for thinking it, too.

And plenty even like the Nazi aesthetics, too. They just try to not get arrested for it, which would be embarrassing for a cop.

You can't really generalize - there are a lot of great humanists too, much like there always was in Germany. I doubt many of them are cops though.

And the vaccine against Nazism that everyone seemed to believe Germany received at some point certainly did not work. A lot of people are still flirting with authoritarianism, never mind loudly supporting an ongoing genocide funded largely by their own taxpayer money.

But then again, Germans are also in the streets protesting against it, getting their shit beaten out of them by the cops.

I can generalize about a white supremacist society. The dominant thread is white supremacy. If you cannot call out prevailing tendencies, you will be unable to understand why, say, Germany embraces and materially supports yet another genocide.

The funny thing about Euro humanism is that it is usually entirely theoretical. They think nice things, allegedly. But where is the action? Usually absent, but when present it is almost always misdirected. And when it's not? Well, they are then oppressed by the state and their oppression accepted by their fellow masses.

And the vaccine against Nazism that everyone seemed to believe Germany received at some point certainly did not work.

It simply never existed, though East Germany did better. Liberalism was "restored" in the political sphere but the material basis for explicit fascism was simply directly resolved by looping West Germany into subimperialism. The Nazis killed or otherwise exiled their scapegoats, never to return. The remaining people retained their tolerance or embrace of that ideology, living in the country they had wished to before, just without the ugly military uniforms and appropriated "Aryan" symbols. And, most importantly, they continued their role as an anticommunist force, the same impetus for the original material support for Naziism both domestically and internationally.

A lot of people are still flirting with authoritarianism, never mind loudly supporting an ongoing genocide funded largely by their own taxpayer money.

"Authoritarian" is a word promulgated selectively for the purposes of imperialism and white supremacy, just like "government" vs. "regime". The relevant tendencies are liberals, fascists, and so on. And a large group of people with no real political consciousness swayed instead by all else that exists around them: degrading material conditions, false promises of liberalism, and the tolerance and promotion of fascistic thinking and oppression of left thinking. AfD continues while Marxist reading groups are oppressed.

But then again, Germans are also in the streets protesting against it, getting their shit beaten out of them by the cops.

Not very many, but yes some are. A very small minority of Germans reject white supremacy and take action.

Bold claims demand evidence, or are you talking out of your arse? Got any studies?

[–] TheOubliette@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

Do you think there will be studies about the right wing nature of predominant German liberalism? What would they study? It is a historical and political question and one that most people cannot even frame, as they do not know the properties of fascistic thinking. The German government is even cracking down on Marxist reading groups! Any critique like this will be a social one and the evidence will be German society and its state.

You can start getting an inkling by asking Germans of Turkish descent how racist the country is. They will talk your ear off. If you need studies I am sure you can find a number on the brown immigrant experience. Islamophobia. Or even just look at the German state's embrace and defense of yet another genocide against the vocal minority of anti-genocide Germans.
