Linuxbros on Lemmy is what keeps me away. Can’t go one damn day without hearing about Linux Linux Linux, its like a cult
Hello! Do you have a moment to spare to talk about our lord and savior Linus Torvald?
As someone who uses Linux on multiple personal machines even I’m finding it cringe.
Like guys calm down you’re hurting the brand.
So you have no good reason to stick with windows or Mac, and you think you'd benefit from switching to Linux, but there's too many people who are annoying about Linux so you don't switch?
Good one.
Imagine going to a pizzeria. You've heard great things about it, how tasty it is and how cheap it is. Now once you get in there, there are a ton of people who don't work there, but are telling you that the burger place down the road is bad because they are expensive and lack options. But everyone you know goes to this burger place. So you decide that a pizza is in order, but all these people are yelling and screaming about how their crust type is the best, and then you have people listing every single topping combination and the benefits of each, but nobody has a consensus on any of it. Only then will you realize that they are all waiting for their own pizza order. And once you actually get to the counter, there is no menu board and you are expected to just order a pizza. The voices of what is the better pizza are drowning out your thoughts on what you actually need, so you leave and get back in line for the same burger every other person is ordering. Maybe I can add cheese, but it's still the same cheese. That is what the Linux community is like.
I mean kinda. It definitely used to be a lot closer to your analogy. I think for the most part, noobs are directed to a Debian based distro or a gaming arch based distro. All depending on skill level, patience, and how much you care about "extensive support"
I used to exclusively recommend Linux Mint to beginners, but if you ONLY want to game it's probably better to do something like Cachy or Pop OS. Debian is for people who want extensive 3rd party prebuilt binaries. That's the closest to windows philosophy you'll get.
Lastly, I use distro watch to find out more info about new and exciting pizzas.
If anyone cares to know my pizza journey. It was: Ubuntu -> Linux Mint -> Debian -> Manjaro -> Endeavour OS
You should really switch to pizza, bro.
If I bought a computer that came with it sure I’d use it, but anything more is an inconvenience to 90% of people who don’t need their computer to do much
I did cave in and use Linux myself, but at least I don't eat beans.
