You're joking right?! I was politically inept at the time so I didn't notice. They seriously had the deathcount at 4k? And people bought that?
I remember taking about it circa 2014 in an explicitly liberal/Democrat social group that met weekly and being ignored, when Obama was committing it.
They weren't trying to convince anyone that the death count was still 4k. That was merely the last official death count and the war simply wasn't being reported on.
Think of it like the current war in Sudan. Even your average Palestinian activist has a vague idea of what's going on there and it probably will put up higher numbers than Gaza.
