Saw a post today from a Blue MAGA type lib that was all about "don't be mean to people that just decided to care about Gaza recently". Libs starting to actually feel vulnerable about Dems being terrible genocide supporters for years, and they don't want anyone to talk about it because it's not "effective political strategy". Same lib also posting about how authoritarian China/Xi is with heavy reference to Tinyman Square and genocide/disappearances etc.

If I had to be around a lib talking like this in person, I'd probably lose my shit.

I mean, as frustrating as it is, we need to be understanding with people who have stopped deluding themselves and are now contrite and want to do the right thing.

If they're just sticking their head in the sand using other words though, fuck 'em.

There's probably no point in discussing China with most people, since their opinion on it doesn't really matter or connect to other things in a systemic way unless they are using "China bad" to argue for American hegemony, which admittedly many of them do.

I'll welcome regular people, but not the journalists and public figures who are cynically covering their asses so they can cheer for the next genocide. We need to destroy their reputations and scatter their audiences to the winds.

You seem to be demonstrating an understanding that the pertinent variable is not, in fact, if they are public figures: If they're just ass-covering, that's the issue. Journos, etc. are also human beings and also make mistakes (even catastrophic ones) or fall into reaction that they find their way out of. If they are sincere, we should deal with them like we should other humans and be understanding (and take advantage of their platform). If they are insincere, we should deal with them like we should other humans and take them to task.

Yeah pretty much. I just think that, at this point, two years into it, anyone whose job is to be informed and shape discourse, and is just now coming around, needs to meet a very high bar of public contrition and epiphany.

Sure, it's not something they can be casual about, definitely, but some people are sunk really deep into the muck and a number were basically groomed into it (this applies especially to a certain subset of Jewish people in Zio families).

Yeah that’s true. I just hope that those who are experiencing a genuine crisis now can bring some of their audience along for the ride.
