Sky News Australia is complete batshit, as opposed to Sky News in the UK which is more "normal" mainstream news.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Curious, is this a joke? I'm not familiar with their broadcasts in Europe or Australia

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 50 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Nope, it's serious. Sky News Australia is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, which explains the far-right lunacy that it is known for.

Sky News UK is owned by Comcast, and is generally considered to be a much more professional and respectable news outlet. Not perfect, but more BBC than Fox News.

I was more familiar with the UK one and thought I came across a fake account when I first saw the Australian one. It felt like an over exaggerated caricature of far-right rage bait

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ah that makes sense, so Sky News UK is basically NBC in the U.S. (Also owned by Comcast)

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 8 points 7 months ago

Yes but only because Comcast bought UK Sky a few years ago off of Murdoch.

Took me a while to find this, sorry, but here is a bias fact check for Sky and for Sky Australia

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Are you insane? It’s just as biased and rage bait in the Uk and the comments on their YouTube videos are just right wing monsters.

I'm talking about the actual television channel and news site. They're very different to the Australian Sky News which is just a soapbox for crazies.

the comments on their YouTube videos are just right wing monsters.

What do you expect? YouTube comments are always a cesspit.

in Germany all public broadcasters have turned off comments because of russian bots and right wing nutjobs. It's a sad state of affairs everywhere
