I’m sorry, but in a democracy you have to earn votes.

In a democracy, the citizenry are obligated to vote according to the needs of the nation. If they fail to take this obligation seriously, inevitably, they surrender democracy to oligarchic ghouls who promise them entertaining distractions.

The increasing view of politics as reality TV entertainment is a major contributor to the fascist bullshit we find ourselves immersed in at present.

From the outside, it seems like democrats enjoy losing. They refuse to adopt progressive policies that have broad support.

No one owes democrats votes. Democrats need to earn them.

Broad support until someone actually champions them. There's a reason even progressive ballot initiatives routinely fail, and when they succeed, rarely by what the issue alone polls.

No one owes democrats votes. Democrats need to earn them.

Oh, I'm so glad my existence has to be earned. If the blue fuckwits aren't an entertaining enough circus, I'm so glad my fellow citizens think it's okay to hand the country over to fascists and let them cut all the throats they want to.

Who is abandoning gay and the trans community? It isn’t progressives. Democrats have said “we can’t be the party of pronouns.”

Sounds like a lovely group.

Okay, and? That doesn't change the fact that the whole "Dems haven't EARNED the non-fascist vote!" shite is telling marginalized groups their existence has to be earned.

Sounds like a lovely group.

Weasels are better than Nazis. But I guess they didn't 'earn' the votes, so it's a good thing the noble and wise electorate chose fascism instead. Murdering marginalized groups'll surely teach the Dems!

If the Dems can't learn from this, just like they couldn't learn from Hillary's failure or Obama's successes, then they're going to lose the next election too.

It's not a matter of "deserving", it's a matter of PR. The only logical explanatiom for why the Dems keep throwing easy elections is that they don't want to win.

They literally lost to chintzy 80's villain Donald Trump, twice.

They literally lost to chintzy 80’s villain Donald Trump, twice.

Yep, while progressive candidates in other races swept the board, right?

No?

It's almost like this is an immensely damaged country filled with low-information voters with far-right notions deeply engrained in the cultural consciousness.

No, no, that can't be it. It must be that the helpless, feckless Dems are simultaneously masterminds running a massive and well-coordinated campaign to ensure progressives don't win the 80% of the vote they clearly and easily could get.

Fuck, man. I WANT progressives to win. I think it is SMARTER in addition to more moral to run on progressive platforms in comparison to the dipshit triangulation shit the DNC wants to push.

But that's not the same as thinking that there's an easy victory just waiting for someone to reach out and grab it.

What progressive candidates? You mean the literal socialists on Seattle's city council or are you talking about Democrat Progressives who get systematically shut out of the party?

More than one thing can be true. Hell, most Americans think the Democrats are a left-wing party.

You mean the literal socialists on Seattle’s city council or are you talking about Democrat Progressives who get systematically shut out of the party?

Wow, you mean the Party(tm) goes out with batons and crowbars to make sure that the Progressive Masses(tm) don't overwhelm Dem party primaries with their filthy votes!?

The core apparatchiks of the party dislike progressives, and work against them. But the influence of this is not some massive vote suppression effort, but an appeal to the already-extant conservative views of voters - yes, including Dem voters - which make a more hostile PR environment than for moderate candidates. If your response to that is that without that gruesome moderate primary campaigning, we would be raking in the victories, I shudder to consider what exactly you think the GOP will be slinging come the general election.

More than one thing can be true. Hell, most Americans think the Democrats are a left-wing party.

Which should emphasize to you just how absurd the notion that there's an easy victory waiting in the wings if only we tacked further left. Especially considering even most Dem voters want the party to remain as-is or become more conservative.

While absurd and repulsive, that's the fucking hand we're dealing with. And pretending that there's going to be a Progressive Wave(tm) if only we punish those damn dirty moderates enough is the same immensely fucked thinking that led to the hopes around Corbyn being brutally dashed by repeated conservative victories in the UK.

Going left IS better for the COUNTRY. But it will not provide the simple solution to electoral victory so fucking many seem to crave.

Yeah, they literally had a cport rule that they had the right to fuck with primaries to make sure an establishment candidate won. Why are you acting like this isn't a historical fact?

The Democrats didn't even hold a primary this time because they knew that if they allowed any actual competition then Biden wouldn't get the nomination.

Keep defending them all you like, I'm not going to forget how they bipartisanshipped us into this situation in the first place.

Yeah, they literally had a cport rule that they had the right to fuck with primaries to make sure an establishment candidate won.

The argument made was that the party had no obligation to remain neutral. While vile, it is literally the scenario I described.

But hey, ignore everything I said and continue existing in a dreamworld where victory is just one left-wing shift away.

The Democrats didn’t even hold a primary this time because they knew that if they allowed any actual competition then Biden wouldn’t get the nomination.

'Allowed'

Lord.

Keep defending them all you like, I’m not going to forget how they bipartisanshipped us into this situation in the first place.

Sorry that I want to engage with the real world. I understand that's much less entertaining than fantasy.
