hot take, but doesn't Tinder already promote pairing based on superficial characteristics - filtering by height seems entirely compatible with the Tinder mindset and approach to dating ...
Tinder has almost never been an actual dating app. It's a hookup app.
I know that was the intent, but that hasn't been my experience. I have dated multiple people from Tinder, but never really hooked up using it. The app is trash for a number of reasons, I really don't like it or using it. Just sharing my experience.
It's both. I met my wife on Tinder.
I also met this mans wife on a Tinder!
I wouldn't really know, but that seems to be my perception, too (that more people use it to hookup than anything else), but I don't doubt that people use it to date and to find long-term relationships too.
