I still remember the disappointment I felt as a kid when he was so easily dispatched. The character was so cool in appearance and style, then he just gets cut in half and falls down a hole. I think that it was supposed to demonstrate badass Obi-wan was, but it just didn't hit.
Because he just stood there like a chump and took it after fighting them off 2v1 before. It's so weird that the fight choreography just went from 100-0 because someone thought "flips are cool"
Honestly, if Obi-Wan had bisected him in mid-air or Force Pushed him on landing or anything I'd have bought it as Maul being genuinely surprised but there's no way he couldn't react in time otherwise.
