also a huge ~~risk~~ sacrifice: it’s the only flight worthy space shuttle and is where it is so that it can be used for study in the future: there is no replacement, and would need to be torn apart and reassembled (destroying parts) to be moved
didn't they already steal the engines to throw away on the sls?
not sure: i know that the one in the smithsonian is unique in that it’s complete for future research… perhaps they grabbed engines from the others, and kept this single 1 in tact
