A couple of days ago i registered my moniker Sepix on Pixelfed.de with its own Mailadress. A short while after i noticed i could also log in through Mastodon which i prefer because i mostly post pictures through Mastodon anyways.

I have two accounts now, one by logging in directly into Pixelfed as @sepix and another through the Mastodon login as @sepix@chaos.social - BUT when i login through Mastodon now i end up in my @sepix profile and not in my @sepix@chaos.social profile.

I cleaned my cookies and tried logging into the site private mode but i always end up at the Pixelfed account no matter what. Searching for the accounts shows both of them, most of the content i posted is visible on the federated account timeline, the other timeline being empty.

What is going on? Shouldn't i be ablo to login the site with both?

@hansenerd Aha aha, thank you for clearing that up! The difference between accounts and profiles wasn't clear to me, is this visible somehow? How can i differentiate between the two?

And, a profile only mirrors the Mastodon content i guess, so when i delete a picture from Mastodon it will also be removed from the corresponding Pixelfed profile? Is this described somewhere?

Thanks again for your help!

@Sepix when you look at a profile, and it just says "@username", that's an account pixelfed.de. when it says "@username@some.host" thats a profile of a remote user (on some.host).

yes, delete actions get federated, meaning pixelfed.de gets notified when you delete stuff on chaos.social. they don't always get transmitted in time, so it can take a while for a post to be deleted everywhere, or if the message gets lost, your post stays on remote instances.

@hansenerd Alright, thanks for clearing that up! I feel this could be lined out a bit better, i would have never figured that out without your explanation ;) Thanks again!
